MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

If you could not attend the Island Party at Carrot Island on August the 9th you missed a great beach party! Everyone had a great time including all the kids that attended. The boats were lined up all the way down the island and the weather was just beautiful with a light breeze that kept us nice & cool.

The hot dogs & all the fixings we had for lunch were so delicious, as were the great desserts. Thanks to the Social Committee and the cooks for another successful social event. They worked hard to feed us while some of us relaxed under our umbrellas listening to beach music provided by Butch Conner and Jeff Walston, thanks guys.

To the children’s delight, we even had a pirate attack. We outnumbered the pirates and were having way too much fun to leave our island. The kids had a great time digging in the sand & playing in the surf. What a wonderful relaxing day of fellowship for all of us fun loving people, both the young in age and the young at heart. Thanks to all that participated to make our day at the beach memorable. It was a great success.

We had 12 re-ups & 10 new members to sign up at the beach party. We want to welcome our new members to the ABSC and we look forward to getting to know you. Check out our web site to see the cool pictures of the Island party.

The Twin Rivers Shag Club sends their thanks for our representation at their 20th anniversary celebration. We had a great time with them; we enjoyed good fellowship, food music & dance. They honored Fred Anderson for his many years of dedication to the TRSC. Fred is also a member of the ABSC. It was good to see you Fred. We wish you the best.

Remember… if you have not renewed your membership with the ABSC you may mail your check to ABSC at P.O. box 1572, Atlantic Beach, NC 28512 or you may re-up at the club. We are looking forward to the following upcoming events:
• September 13th - A Day at the Beach
• October 11th - Frogmore Stew
• November 15th - Covered Dish
• December 6th - Christmas Party at the Dune’s Club

Don’t miss out on any of the fun!

As always thank you for supporting the Atlantic Beach Shag Club.

Sincerely,
Bill Guthrie
President of ABSC

This party will be Thursday afternoon at 2:00 on September 18th. Five clubs are giving this party, Twin Rivers (New Bern), Eastern Carolina(Greenville), Southern Pines, Burlington, and Atlantic Beach Shag Club.

The committee also made a recommendation that our socials begin at 6:00, eat from 6:30-8:30, and party ends at 9:00. This might allow some members to remain at Memories longer. Motion made, seconded, and approved to change social time from 6:00-9:00. The DJs will continue to receive $100 for their services, despite the time change from four hours to three.

The Board discussed the costs of the upcoming social events and voted to charge $8 for guests at the Frogmore Stew and $8 for the April social, Chicken Pickin. The remaining socials will continue to charge guests, $5.

Message From The Social Committee

Social Committee Report

Event: Island Party
Date: Saturday, August 9th, 2008
Place: Carrot Island

Again, this was a soopa doopa good time. The social committee members captured the island at the break of day and staked our Atlantic Beach Shag Club flag (word was a pirate ship was patrolling the bay). The pirate ship sure-nuff attacked the Island (after lunch) and the Atlantic Beach Shag Club (with full bellies of outstanding hot dogs) held the island…………….until the tide came in rather aggressively!

This was a great day of fun and fellowship. Our shag club members’ boats surrounded the island. Tents and umbrellas provided the shade. The water was beautiful against the white sandy beach. The hot dogs were simply the best on the beach!

There were a total of 57 attendees including 12 member re-ups and 10 new members. Very special thanks to Bob Seymore and Larry Castle for a superb job of cooking. They provided a 5 star restaurant atmosphere for the island hoppers! Also a special thanks to Jeff Walston and Butch Connor who provided music to ensure an enjoyable day and successful event.

Back by popular demand was the special event activity “The Corn Hole” (provided by Ted Harrell). This provided the most fun to test our skill sets.

Respectfully,

Steve Broughton

LETTER FROM PAST PRESIDENT ROBERT E. LEE

Thank You from ROBERT E. and JANE

Jane and I would like to thank ALL the members of the Atlantic Beach Shag Club for your support of the club for the last two years. We were so moved by the award (plaque) that I received and the roses that were given to Jane on July 12th at the re-up party. It was quite a surprise. The very kind words spoken about us were so up-lifting. It was our honor and pleasure to serve this club.

As all of you know we have a new set of officers and board members with NEW ideas and new thoughts. I know this new SHAG year will be better and bigger! We had over 125 at the re-up party. At the Island party on Sept. 9th we must have had about 70 to80 there. Just a great party and if you missed it, you missed a gooood time. I have attended two board meeting and I know the new board has a lot of NEW and GREAT talent.

Remember that SOS is September 12th thru 21st. I know there is a large group going down on Wed. the 17th, so we will not miss the BIG PARTY on Thursday the 18th at DECKERZ. There was a scheduling conflict with Blvd. Grill. DECKERZ is beside Ducks. The owner of DECKERZ is rolling out the red carpet for us. Four other clubs will join us: Twin Rivers (New Bern) ---Eastern N.C. Shag Club (Greenville) ---Burlington Shag Club (Burlington) --- and Southern Pines Shag Club (with a Question??). Bill Guthrie asks me to take care of this for our club. If you plan to attend, call the Avista, its contact numbers are on the web-page.

Once again Jane and I (I could not have done it without her). THANK ALL OF YOU for allowing me to serve as your President for two years. NOW LETS GET STARTED ON A GREAT NEW YEAR OF THE ===”ATLANTIC BEACH SHAG CLUB”.

Later: Robert E. and Jane D.
